Should it be illegal to pierce or tattoo people under the age of 18?
Apparently there is no legislation preventing body piercers and tattoo artists from making their mark on minors.
Should there be more stringent regulations and repercussions and what should they be??

For both my tattoo’s and piercings I had to not only sign a disclaimer that I was not inebriated but also show ID and sign that I was over 18.
But maybe that is just in QLD
Hmmm…. I guess it is a permanent body mod (especially tattoos), so maybe minors should have to show ID for tatoos, but not piercings (they can just grow over).
I think what is important is that the person knows how to take care of their piercing properly.
I just got more ear piercings and you HAVE to know how to care for them or they will get infected.
There is an 18 y/o limit in Vic too, but seeing that many tattooists are not exactly police friendly they don’t bother to ask!
I saw a baby girl today who had both ears pierced, disgraceful!
yes, you have to sign a disclaimer, but i definitely wasn’t asked for ID when i had my ears/nose/belly button pierced!! lucky they DO grow over so now i just have the nose stud. :p
but tattoos are PERMANENT. we once hosted an exchange student. she came down to melbourne (she was 17) to see some family and came back to us with a HUGE tattoo in the middle of her back. her parents were LESS than impressed and my mum was completely distraught.
maybe piercings should be ok once you are 16, but anybody wanting a tattoo under the age of 18 should have to have parental consent.
